Migration Guide — CurrencyFreaks → fastFOREX API

Migrate from CurrencyFreaks in under an hour

CurrencyFreaks and fastFOREX API are structurally similar — the biggest change is that their rates arrive as strings and ours as numbers. This guide maps every endpoint and the small parsing differences.

Draft guide — endpoint mapping to be validated against both APIs' current docs before publishing.

Four steps, most of them small.

  1. Get a free API key

7-day trial, no credit card, full plan access from minute one.

  2. Swap base URL & auth

    api.currencyfreaks.com/v2.0 → api.fastforex.io, and ?apikey= becomes the X-API-Key header.

  3. Drop the parseFloat

Their rate values are strings ("0.859587"); ours are numbers for currency endpoints. Remove the string-to-number conversions.

  4. Benchmark, then cut over

Run both in parallel on the trial, compare values and latency, switch when convinced.

Endpoint mapping

Every endpoint, translated.

One row per call your code makes today. Parameters keep their meaning — only names and paths change.

Response shapes

Before and after.

Two changes: data.rates becomes data.results, and values arrive as JSON numbers rather than strings — so parseFloat() shims can go. Their space-separated datetime becomes strict ISO-8601.

Before · CurrencyFreaks

Watch for these differences.

The honest list — everything that behaves differently, including the ones that work in your favour.

  1. String rates become numbers

If your code does parseFloat(rates.EUR), it will keep working — but you can simplify. Note our Metals API deliberately uses strings for precision; currency endpoints use numbers.

  2. 861 crypto symbols vs 500+ assets

They list more crypto symbols; we cover 500+ assets across 750+ pairs with every-second updates from named exchanges. Diff your actual symbol usage against /crypto/currencies before cutover.

  3. Deep history handover

Their end-of-day history reaches 1984; ours reaches 1970 with intraday granularity on FX pairs. If you rely on pre-1970 or exotic-code history, export it before you cancel.

  4. Freshness changes your caching

Hourly-update assumptions can relax to 60-second (or 1-second) data. Check any cache TTLs calibrated to their cadence.

Prove it to yourself

Benchmark both during your trial.

Don't take our 21ms average on faith. Run both APIs from your own infrastructure with this snippet, compare the numbers, and cut over when the data says so.

benchmark.sh · run from your servers

> curl -s -o /dev/null -w "freaks %{time_total}s\n" \

Migration questions.

What teams ask when leaving CurrencyFreaks.

Can I run both APIs in parallel?
Yes — the recommended path. Shadow-read against both during the 7-day trial and compare values and latency before switching.
I use their fluctuation endpoint.
Compute open/close/change from one /time-series call, or — better — use /fx/ohlc/time-series for true OHLC at day, hour or minute granularity on Premium.
Will values match exactly?
Close but not identical — different source networks and snapshot times. Benchmark both against a reference you trust during the trial.
Can you help with the migration?
Yes — support answers 365 days a year. If you need more than 7 days to validate, ask about extending your trial.
