Pricing units, from gram to tola

  • Tier-1 liquidity, one order book

Prices are derived exclusively from Tier-1 liquidity providers — global banks and top-tier ECNs — aggregated into a single tradable order book with best-execution top-of-book pricing.

  • Any metal, any currency — no problem

/metals/spot returns realtime bid, ask, mid and spread for any supported metal/currency pair, converted to your unit of weight and purity in one call. 22-carat gold in Indian rupees, per gram? No problem. The instrument used is always reported, and prices crossed via USD are flagged.

  • Raw instrument quotes

/metals/quote returns live bid/ask for up to 10 instruments exactly as the feed supplies them — no conversion applied. Prices arrive as strings, preserving every significant figure of the source quote.

  • REST and streaming

Fetch spot prices over the same JSON API you use for FX, or stream 40+ metals instruments live over WebSockets — the same secure connection as FX pairs.

  • Fully specified metal

Every price maps to a published specification: purity grades for precious metals (finest first, from the /metals/purities endpoint), LME contract grades for the base metals — copper, aluminium, lead, nickel and zinc. You know exactly what's being priced.

  • Units that match your market

Quote gold per troy ounce, gram, kilogram, Hong Kong tael, Thai baht or tola — twelve units covering Western bullion desks and Asia's physical markets alike, listed at /metals/units.

  • Ratios and crypto crosses

Stream the gold/silver ratio directly (XAUXAG and XAGXAU), or price gold in Bitcoin with XAUBTC — no client-side maths required.

  • History across timeframes

Historical metals data is rolling out across multiple timeframes, following the same shape as our FX history — watch the docs for endpoint details.

Available on Premium and Premium + WebSockets.

Metals endpoints are tagged Premium in our API spec: REST access ships with Premium, with updates matching your plan's FX speeds. Add WebSocket streaming for the live feed. Not included on One or Extra.

Metals API — FAQ.

The details developers ask about before integrating.

Which plans include metals?
Premium and Premium + WebSockets. REST access ships with Premium; add the WebSockets streaming option for the live feed. One and Extra do not include metals.
Can I price 18-carat gold, or sterling silver?
Yes — /metals/spot takes a purity parameter: any code from /metals/purities (18K, sterling, Britannia and more) or a custom fineness between 1 and 1000 parts per thousand. Base metals are always priced at their single contract grade.
What happens if my currency isn't quoted directly?
The price is crossed via USD automatically and the response flags it with cross_rate: true — this consumes one additional FX call and widens the bid/ask slightly. The source_instrument field always tells you which instrument was actually quoted.
How fast are the updates?
Update speeds match your plan's FX constraints — every second on Premium via REST, with streaming updates over WebSockets on the Premium + WebSockets plan.
Why do prices pause overnight and at weekends?
Metals markets aren't 24/7 like crypto. Precious metals pause for one hour nightly (anchored to 5pm New York) and close at weekends; base metals follow London Metal Exchange hours, going quiet roughly 19:00–01:00 London. Quiet periods are the market itself, not a feed outage — our Metals Data Sources page has the full schedule.
Is historical data included?
Historical metals data is rolling out across multiple timeframes, similar in shape to our FX historical data — endpoint details will appear in the docs as they land.
What quality of metal do prices refer to?
Precious metals are priced to minimum fineness (gold 995, silver 999, platinum and palladium 999.5), traded for delivery. Base metals follow LME contract specifications, though the feed is not LME data. See our Metals Data Sources page for the full story.
Is there a silver price API or a base metals price API?
Yes — the same /metals/spot endpoint prices silver, platinum, palladium and the five base metals on the same key, so one integration is a silver price API and a base metals price API as well as a gold one.
Is there an XAUUSD API?
Yes — /metals/quote returns raw instrument quotes such as XAUUSD (gold in US dollars) and XAGUSD (silver), and /metals/spot reports the source instrument behind every converted price.
Why are prices returned as strings?
To preserve every significant figure of the source quote. Parse them as decimals rather than floats where precision matters — this is deliberate, and standard practice for financial data.
